The most effective models come with intelligent navigation technology that can help them avoid cords, toys and other obstacles in the household.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is an excellent robot vacuum that has a variety of smart features that make it more easy to maintain than other models. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most convenient features we've encountered in a robot and it is compatible with hard floors as well as carpets. It's also easy to install and use and the app will guide you step-by-step through the process. Another notable feature is the ability to go back to the spot where it began in our tests. It did this for 77 minutes on one cleaning before running out of battery.
Contrary to other robovacs we test, the i3+ EVO has self-emptying bins that dump debris into an external dirt compartment on the base of its charging when it's full. This reduces hands-on maintenance and keeps the i3+ EVO from overfilling, but it still needs to be manually cleaned after each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dust bin can hold 2.4L that will last for four to five cleaning sessions.
The i3+ EVO, just like the i7 uses state-ofthe-art floor-tracking sensors that create maps. It also lets you navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only store one map, while the i7 can store multiple. The map of the i7 can be used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones but not for the i3+ EVO.
The i3+ EVO is more effective of picking up surface debris compared to some other robovacs we've looked at, but it's not the best at cleaning edges and corners. It's also less gentle on furniture, despite being surprisingly quiet. It pushed chairs away from walls and made some collisions with the sides of our bed, and it was stuck to cords and toys during testing.
2. Black & Decker Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro is an excellent choice, whether you are expanding your robot vacuum collection or are just beginning to get started. It has an elegant design with a powerful navigation system, as well as effective automation at a reasonable cost. It's the most affordable pound-for-pound model on sale right now and even matches Roborock's higher-priced models in a variety of ways.

This is the first robot we've seen with 3D mapping. This, along with other innovations made it perform extremely well in our tests of vacuuming and mopping tests. You can schedule cleaning times, set no-go zones and see the status of the battery among other things. The app is easy to use, but it does not support Apple HomeKit; that feature is expected to be available in 2025. As of early November, Apple has updated a footnote on its website to note that the feature will be delayed until 2025. HomeKit isn't compatible with other robots, however Siri Shortcuts are.
3. TP-Link Tapo RV30 Plus
The TP-Link Tapo R30 Plus robot vacuum cleaner is a fantastic option if you're searching for a machine that can also mop and is reasonably priced. This model uses an internal dToF LiDAR sensor to map out your home and design efficient cleaning routes. The iMop excelled in our analysis of coverage and navigation efficiency and was also good at getting around obstacles, such as furniture. It can also find its way back to the base station if it runs out of batteries during cleaning.
The spot cleaning mode allows you to clean a certain area of your floor. It can also be programmed manually to follow a specific route. This is a great option if you have narrow hallways or stairs. In our carpet cleaning test it did a good job cleaning carpets. However, it was unable to clean rugs and carpets with longer piles. It is also able to automatically lift the mop pad when it encounters carpet, which is a great feature to avoid mowing your carpets.
The iMop has an onboard dust bin and water tank, which it is empty at the conclusion of every cleaning session. The onboard dust bin holds up to 2.5 liters of debris and is only required to be emptying it every few cleaning cycles. The water tank is able to handle about a dozen mopping sessions before it is dry. The iMop is more easy to maintain and clean than the typical robot cleaner, and can be a major selling point for busy households.
